Smoke chair by Maarten Baas for Moooi

Smoke chair by Maarten Baas for Moooi

The Smoke series was designed in 2002 by a then very young Maarten Baas as an experiment but was almost instantly snapped up by Dutch high end manufacturer Moooi and put into serial production. But all chairs are unique since the making of them require that the wooden leg frame is burned and then treated with epoxy to keep it from falling apart. It still is, to this day, one of the most odd designs that have made it into the production line and it was also a major success. Seat is in black leather. This example is from the first 5 years of production
